Privacy Policy

Invest DSM is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) governs how we treat the Personal Information that we collect and receive from you in connection with your use of the SMS Service (“Service”), which we make available to you through a third-party service provider.

By submitting your information via our forms, you agree to the terms of this Policy. Invest DSM reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify or change this Policy at any time with or without prior notice to you. The date of the last update will be posted at the top of this Policy for your convenience. This Policy, and any changes, are effective as soon as posted. Your continued use of Invest DSM grant programs following the posting of any changes to the Policy constitutes your full acceptance of those changes.

“Personal Information” is information that individually identifies you, such as your mobile phone number or email, as well as the any Personal Information that you choose to include in messages you send through the Service.

What Personal Information is collected about you

Through the use of our forms and grant programs, Invest DSM will receive the following information: your mobile phone number, email address and other personal identifiers which you choose to include in your form submissions.

How Invest DSM uses Personal Information about you

The purpose of your personal information submission is to (a) provide you with our services, (b) process and respond to inquiries, (c) improve how we serve the Des Moines community, (d) if necessary, contact you with important announcements or messages regarding our program offerings and Special Investment Districts, (e) conduct research, and (f) provide anonymous reporting program and financial auditing purposes.

Each message that you send through SMS texting services or email is stored on our servers. We retain these messages on our servers.

Disclosure of your information

We will not share, rent, or sell your Personal Information to other companies or individuals without your consent. We may use or disclose such information in any of the following limited circumstances:

  • We have your consent.
  • We need to enforce our Terms of Service.
  • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights, or the legal rights of others, or defend against legal claims.
  • We believe it is necessary to share Personal Information to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Invest DSM’s Terms of Service, or as otherwise required by law.

We may share aggregated information with others without further notice. An example of this would be the number of people who used our programs in a given month or the total number of texts sent in a given week.

Security of Your Information

Invest DSM takes precautions to ensure the security of your Personal Information, including ensuring that our phone and email service providers(third party service providers) protect the security of your Personal Information. However, we cannot guarantee that hackers or unauthorized personnel will not gain access to your Personal Information despite our efforts. You should note that in using the Service, your information will travel through third party infrastructures which are not under our control (such as a third party SMS delivery platform or carrier networks).

We cannot protect, nor does this Policy apply to, any information that you transmit to other users. You should never transmit personal or identifying information to other users.

Your Right to Opting in

A mobile user might opt-in by:

  • Entering a phone number online,
  • Sending a Mobile Originating (MO) message containing an advertising keyword,
  • Filling out a paper form that includes their phone number, or
  • Signing up at our office location.

Your Right to Opting out

Invest DSM gives you the ability to opt out of the Service for any reason. You can opt out by texting “STOP” or “QUIT” to 515.221.8410 or by email at info@investdsm.org

We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the Service, such as administrative messages regarding your grant, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them.

Third Party Links and Services

Invest DSM will not share personal information with third-party vendors or service-providers without a client’s explicit consent. This would not apply to legal purposes where Invest DSM may disclose information to respond to subpoenas, court orders, legal process, law enforcement request warrants, and legal claims or government inquiries. Invest DSM will only provide third-party links for relevant information listed in news articles or to share Social Media Networking pages. News article links are verified at the time of posting and may change over time. It is the sole discretion of the web user to click links entering third-party websites. Invest DSM is not liable for security concerns due to the use of third-party links.

If you access third-party Social Media services, such as Facebook, Google, or Twitter (X), through the Invest DSM website to login to the social media or to share information about your experience on the Sites with others, these third-party services may be able to collect information about you, including information about your activity on the Sites, and they may notify your connections on the third-party services about your use of the Sites, in accordance with their own privacy policies. If you choose to engage in public activities on the Sites, you should be aware that any information you share there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these areas.  You should use caution in disclosing personal information while participating in these areas. Invest DSM is not responsible for the information you choose to submit in these public areas.

Data Retention

Invest DSM shall retain data in accordance with local and federal laws. Inactive records will be disposed pursuant to the policy in the following paragraph unless of historical significance. Records of historical significance will be stored beyond the record retention policy as  aggregated information with redated personal information unless explicit written consent is provided. An example of this would be the number of people who used our programs since the programs were created.

After 10 years of inactivity, Personal Information records shall be disposed taking appropriate measures such as (a) shredding the record; (b) destroying personal information contained in the record; (c) modifying the record to make the personal identifying information unreadable; or (d) taking reasonable actions consistent with commonly accepted industry practice.

Children’s Privacy

Invest DSM will not process the personal information of any individual less that 18 years of age. Photos of children will not be taken or retained without the explicit consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This privacy may be updated as deemed necessary. Clients may view the date of the most recent update at the bottom of the privacy policy webpage.
